Day Six: Norway, Trondheim to Molde

6th July 2013

This morning was one of the best mornings! No interuption whatsoever:) haha.. Last night I had booked the accomodation for day seven in Maloy, and both Harri and I had planned the route from Trondheim to Maloy. We had decided to go along the Atlantic Road part of the way. This particular road was voted as the most scenic roate by a British newspaper. We had a brochure, and it looked simply spectacular, so that is what we wanted to do.

We had a beautiful breakfast at the hotel before we left, and I quickly did all that I needed to do on the internet in the foyer before check-out:) It was a real rush! I finished just before 12. hehe..

We began the huge treck at around 12:30. We had to start on the longest stretch, Trondheim to Kristiansund. Boy, I was not looking forward to that! 3 hour journey:) The journey was not particularly scenic, and along the way there were no places to stop and eat. So, I would recommend that people who journey long distances like this pack a lunch before beginning. There were many picnik benches along the way where we could have eaten, and so we plan to do that on our next long voyage!

Bye Trondheim!

It was such a long drive! And finally when we did get to Kristiansund we couldn't find where we needed to go to get to the Atlantic road. Tom Tom was a bit confused, I think, since we "arrived at our destination" at a residential house:) It took almost an hour to find where we were supposed to go... Such a drag.

Yay! We started the Atlantic Road.

As most areas in Norway, we had to go through a tunnel. This was a nice one though, and when we got to the other end we were welcomed with a wonderful welcome!

There was an area to stop to admire the wonderment. Harri and I ran up one of the rocky hills.

We then crossed this unusually shaped bridge. Actually, they have many of these wierdly curved bridges in Norway:)

This is another area we stopped along the way. It was just so amazing that we stayed there for a very long time:) I would definetely recommend this place for tourists in Norway! It was so artictis, and you can stay there in little hut for a day or more. There was also boating trips, and I am sure it would be fairytale like:)

After this venture we drove to Molde, and had a lovely night there.

Now, you are uptodate.

Day Five: Norway

5th July 2013

Previously: We had had the best pizza in all of Norway, or the world, I am not sure. It was superb! Better than anything I had ever tasted:) That was a good way to complete the day.

Today I woke up to rain. NO!! We were planning to do more sight seeing:( We were planning to take the car and go to areas aroung Trondheim. After breakfast we went to the information center and found that the recommended attraction to go was 2 hours out of Trondheim! I did think that was a very long time, but didn't say anything. What the child:)) So, that is where we headed out for:) Oh, and with other places in mind..

That was a some-what mistake! The trip to the place outside Trondheim took more than that. It was because of a million mountains we had to swerve around. There was a few tunnels, but only a few. It was really pretty though. It was good to see the scenery, and it was more in land, as we will be taking routes that are closer to the border to see the fjords later.

We stopped along the way, as it was the only place to stop:DD We were looking for any signs to a cafe, but there were only a few grocery stores. We stopped at one when our stomachs were telling us we needed some nourishment. Amazingly there was an oven there, and there was some buns in the oven that were almost ready, so we waited for them. They were delish:)

Finally, two years later:)), we arrived at Roros. hehe. It was an extraordinary sight to see! It was just like an old village you see in movies, with the peeling paint and mining area. As I said before, Norway has many houses with grass on the roof. This place is further proof of this observation!

The attraction we had come to see was a mining museum. That is where we went firstly, which was lucky because it was raining cats and dogs. That way, we were hoping, the rain would die off when we had finished at the museum. That is how it usually works for us anywayz:)

The museum held many cute diharamas of mining and how the Norweigans advanced to using electricity to move coal from below the ground to above. It was very cute, and there was actually some original platforms from the 1700s. I was pretty amazed myself when I found what looked like the cart that they must have used to bring the coal up from the mines:0 That made me very happy with myself. hehe.

We then walked around the town for a while, and began our huge journey to get back to Trondheim.

Had to stop along the way to admire the scenery. Haha, just kidding.. We had to stretch our legs. I mean, the view was amazing too:))

Now, you are uptodate. Tomorrow from Trondheim to Molde!

Good evening everyone!

Day Four: Norway

4th July 2013

Previously: We had arrived at the hotel to find that the room was neat and tidy, but that there was no fridge or any five-star quality. Sorry Mummu:( Harri and I were really hungry, so we went for a walk to Burger King to get something. I had known that Norweigan kronas were expensive, but that was ridiculous! 10 euros for one wrap! Anywayz, it was extremely goof. I guess you pay for quality:)

First thing I woke up to: bypassers chatting downstairs freely as they will. Nice. Actually, I wouldn't have minded if I hadn't been so tired. You'd think a sleep would have revived me! Luckily for me, we had a great breakfast consisting of muesli, boiled eggs, waffles, and fresh orange juice. Such a way to start a day:)

Harri had arranged the amusements, and we were stayig in Trondheim for two days! Yay! So, th first thing we wanted to see was the cathedral. The roads we took to go to the Cathedral were so cute! I don't know why, but it looked SOO Norweigan:) hehe...

We finally arrived at the Cathedral. Nothing, NOTHING, can prepare you for the largness of St Olevs Cathedral! It was huge! I was overwhelmed:)

We found that generic gift shop area, where they sold the tickets to see inside, so we bougth the combined ticket. That meant that we could see the famous jewels, museum, inside the church andd go up the tower. It was awesome! The lady was very pleasant, and told us that there was guided tours in English at specific times, and an organ concert at 1pm. Everyone is so friendly in Norway!

The inside of the church was amazing! You cannot take pictures inside the Cathedral, but I bought a post card in the gift shop, so I will take a picture of that. The Cathedral was enormous inside, and the rooves were very high. It is reall hard to explain the inside, so please come and see for yourself! hehe...

The view from the top of the tour. It was awesome!

We could go across all four sides, so that you could see all around Trondheim. The views were spectacular! Harri and I were the only youngsters there, so we let all the others go down the stairs first, while we waited with tour guide at the top. She was around the same age as me, and she said that she had to go up and down the tour at least twice a day! She had been there quite many times, so she knew the view already, and each time she went up there she saw new things. She also said that she hears many rumours as well about the Cathedral. One of them was that the last of the jewels of the cathedral is hidden at the top near a spire, and that the angel who is in the picture above actually has the face of Young Bob Dylan:P

We then went to have a quick look at the jewels, which were amazing as you'd guess they would be, and went to see the organ concert. The guy who played the organ was amazing!! I am not sure if any of you have heard an organ before, but this was like angels playing. He played four different pieces. In all of them he used his hands as well as his feet! Mummu says that there are piano keys for your feet on an organ. For the last one another guy came out to help the player to switch the switched to allow more pipes above to sound. It reminded me of that evil jelly fish guy in Pirates of The Carribean. Don't ask me why.

It was around luch time afterwards, and so I tried moose meat. If you would have given it to me any other time, I would have said a full blown NO, but this just felt like the right time. And... It was lovely:) It tasted like silver side, or corned beef. Reminded me of my childhood:) We ate an apple afterwards overlloking this magnificant view:

:D

After that we thought of going to the museum, and while we were there we remembered the guided tour that was in English. It was in 10 minutes. So, we waited around. When the lady came, we found that there was only us and two other nice people. She told us the history of the place, and that the Cathedral was originaly built as a small building in the 1100s, but was then burnt, and rebuilt in the 1600s. She was very thorough, and she took us on a tour of the palace. In Trondheim you can only see certain areas if you are on a guided tour, and this was one of those places. She explained to use how it was built over time, what was used for what, and when the Swedes, Danes and Norweigans had hold of the palace. Very interesting info!

All of us were getting a bit tired and hungry, so we went back to the hotel to have tea. I am very sorry, The Old Riverhouse, but I took four variaties of tea bags:(( There was calming tea, and it wa very calming. Thankyou:) hehe...

Another sight to see was the old town. We walked over the Red Bridge and through the colourful streets. It was really nice to walk a bit further tto the top of the mountain. There was fortress, which was built to protect Norway from Sweden. After Norway got it's independence in the early 19th Century, the Norweigans wanted to rid all Swedish stuff out of the country. This was what the King thought of to protect Norway against Sweden, and of course to show how Norway is it's own:) Sweet:))

Now you are uptodate.

Have an awesome day!

Norway Trip: Day Three Sweden to Norway

3rd July 2013

This morning we woke up to the most beautiful apartment bnb ever! The bed was magnificent, like sleeping on a cloud. I needed a good sleep, and that is what I got! Harri and I shared a room. It was the largest room, incuding a sofa and a coffee table. There was a lounge area, where there was a huge sofa and a plasma tv, btw we did not have time to enjoy this area
:( There was also a kitchen, and a bathroom. THE BATHROOM! No words to describe the amazingness, except to say that it was probably the size of theplace we stayed in Umea... Hehe.

The outside of the bnb, getting ready to leave.

The breakfast! We were served like royalty by the manager of the bnb. He had placed fruit cut up in the bowls, and this amazing version of a breakfast from Texas. It had bacon, tomato, scrambled eggs and some other amazing stuff:) It was soo delish we stored the left overs for the trip.

Against our wishes, we had to force our selves to leave this delicacy! However, we were so looking forward to our journey to Norway, so we gave the key to the manager and said our farewells.

Next we drove to Ostersund, where we went for a walk. There was a lake there, which was the five largest in Sweden, and on a huge hill next to the lake there were spots of houses all the way through.

Next we stopped in Åre, a place closer to Norway. I had initially thought to stop here because there are lovely walking trails, according to a brochure I had found. We stoped firstly at a petrol station. Luckily there was free wifi there, since Harri found that close to this area was the widest water fallin Sweden! We had to then go and see that:)

The water was really rough, so we could hardly hear eachother talking! S glad we went there! One of THE highlights of the trip:)

Still 98 km to the Norway border...huh. The rode we took was extra scenic, and the mountains became even larger as we neared the border. Extremely different to Finland, and on some mountains we even saw snow.

We had to stop at a shop just before the border, because Norway is meant to be really expensive. The most expensive place in Scandinavia actually. While there we filled up on fruit and yogurt. While walking back to the car we saw that most of the other cars were from Norway! Hahaha... Just goes to show!

Crossed the border!

First glimpse of Norway. Little huts with grass on the rooves. We noticed that further along the road most of the cottages did have grass growing on their rooves! Well, I guess they needed something to fully indentify the change from Sweden to Norway:) Cute.

We drove through numerous tunnels, and some of them were 5 minutes long! We started to fell very clostrofobic, I was wondering how people would survive in the tunnel from england to france!! Ahh.

Now you ar uptodate!

Till tomorrow,

Laura

P.S Sorry that I am a tad behind. My internet access has not been going so well, and I have been sleeping at eleven each night finishing the post for each day!

Norway Trip: Day Two Sweden

2nd July 2013

Previously: Last night the town was so swedish that I thought I would see Pippi Longstockings jump out and flag us down. Picturesque. We then found the cute BnB, and followed the instructions to find the key and the room. We had to make the bunks, since it was not *****. As mummu said, "You get what you pay for." I think everyone one of us slept smoothly right till morning:)

This morning we had an awesome breakfast! The guy who owned the BnB had set out muesli and a variety of cheeses, jams, fruit, bread and good old orange juice on a bench for us. He even helped us find accomodation for tonight. Yes... We hadn't got that far yet...

We then went for a tour of the town. We parked in the center of Umea, and walked down through this glorious mall outside full of bikes;)

Mall.

Stieg Larsson, a famous swedish author, writes novels based around Umea. This is the iconic area, and this is some kind of marking of his... I am not completely sure. Anywayz, it looked so cute, being in the middle of the town, and so Harri just had to rest in there.

The red hall. I am note sure about that though. Harri was the tour guide:)

Left Umea for Bjurholm, where there was an Elk farm. However, the weather was not permitting. Rainy, and wet... Yet, we still saw the elk through a fence:) the scenery was amazing! So, it was not a trip uncalledfor:) The people from Bjurholm believe that it is the most scenic place in Norway, and it was true for me at the time... But now I know better:) Mwhaha.

We then stopped at a little road house to get these ginger bread cookies that the person at the info place in Bjurholm recommended. They were pretty good:)

These mountains were called skull mountains, according to Mummu anyway... I was too busy being the paparatzi of this mountain to notice:) Oh, and the silly window got in the way of all of shots! Grr.

After 2 and a half hours of driving we found the cosiest bnb just off the highway. It is amazing! Looking forward to an early night:)

The manager of the bnb suggested that we take a scenic route to the coast of Sweden, which we did do. I am so glad I did not give into my draining self and lie in front of the tv while drinking tea, calming tea!

Pappa, Harri and I decided to go, because we wanted to make the most of being here. The BEST idea! It was super awesomely fantabulous! Wow!

Drive.

We then found the place the guy suggested.

We took a billion pictures!

This area is called the highlands, and this is apparently because the land goes upwards towards the sea. According to the manager of the bnb, the two tectonic plates of Finland and Sweden grind together and push both upwards. That is why there are pieces of rock piled on top of eachother.

After we had amazed ourselves from this amazement, we ventured back to our bnb. Harri and I were quite hungry, and so we had some Thai food at this scrumdidliumptious Thai restaurant a bunny hop away from the place we are staying.

Now you are up to date!

Hopefully tomorrow will be a sunny, hot day. I am sure Mummu would love that! Hehe.
